Let me just say: Hot, Hot, Hot. Innocent, virginal YA this is not!I give it 4½♥'s... I'm showing a full 5 (since Amazon does not allow ½ stars), but I'm a little particular about giving 5 stars- it was close. Emotionally, it's a YA story (and also technically since the main female protagonist is in high school) but from the steam factor- my, oh, my! It's racier than many adult books.

Love me some tattooed, pierced hot male eye candy. Go on there, Slade, play with that lip ring! It has the angst of YA married with the hotness factor of a Harlequin Romance. Generally, if you enjoy the 'youthful' feeling from YA, but really wish they'd take the romance up to a 10... this one goes to an 11.

I'll go exploring... I'll create a map as I go along! Oh, my computer screen just steamed over again. Be careful with your eReader while succumbing to this hot book. Tattooed, hot, rock 'n roll men with supernatural 'extras' to boot! Slade was one of those look--like-a-bad-boy but act like a gentleman (more or less.) He was right up my alley. I am still getting shivers from the hotness that is Slade.

If you're looking for a hot, tattooed (yummy) paranormal read that will crawl down your pants and set up a tent... look no further. If you want to stick with the straight and narrow YA vanilla paranormal romance, then pass over this book and leave Slade to me and nobody looses a lip ring.

Hope and Slade...wow...these two had such chemistry that I found myself getting caught up with their stories...even though they were 17 and 20 and definitely in a YA category for me. For the most part this book did have a young feel to me, but there were some very adult parts involving drugs and attacks on young women that pushed it into the NA genre.
I got this when it was a freebie and mostly because the description was intriguing (I am not a huge fan of paranormal) and although it had many elements of the supernatural and spiritual world, it was interesting enough to make me want to read until it was done. This town that Hope and her brothers moved to with her dad was full of despicable rich snobs, mean girls and evil-doers, and the things she was put through would test any teenager's strength. But when some pretty big secrets are out, Hope gains the strength and power to fight and her transformation from weak girl to something else makes her a force to be reckoned with. Cool book and very different.

I have to say I generally enjoyed this book. Hope was a likable character who was not easily pushed around, was not too boy crazy, and told it like it is. I did particularly like the build up to her relationship with Slade (but have to say did not much like his name, but got over it). Slade was an interesting character, and was much more than a "bad boy who is not really bad". The story sucked me in from the beginning and was great in that it continued to developed and I did not feel like it dragged at any point. However, my criticism would be that the final felt rushed. I don't want to give away what happens, but it was like, bang, major story point, major story point and now finished.
Will I read again? Probably
Would I recommend? Yes
This was a terrific read! A solid mix of teen angst, mature YA,mystery and paranormal. Slade is a great character. With him, things aren't always what they seem. He's mysterious, genuine, caring and has a bad boy persona. He'd do anything for his family. Anything! Hope is down to earth, loyal and trusting. She likes to make up her own mind when it comes to meeting new people. She, too, would do anything for family. She'd even give up her own happiness.
I admit, I was skeptical when I first dove into this book. The blurb sounds amazing but I really didn't know what I was getting into. I knew it was paranormal but the way it was introduced was brilliant! I'm not against tattoos, but I've certainly never wanted one until now!!
The mysteries in this book were woven throughout with such detail that I noticed my heart pounding right along with the characters. Many books have me on the edge of my seat, but few make the heart race!
I did, however have a few problems. I felt there should have been more about Nona. I just knew she either knew what was happening or had to be involved somehow but nothing came to fruition. Second thing that bothered me was Hope's ability to down shift. (Minor spoiler alert) She was with Tucker kissing him, then a few pages later kissing Slade. She wasn't necessarily what I would call promiscuous, but this was a YA read. She was 17 and had never been kissed or had a BF so to me it was strange at the time. The more I got into the story, I realized this was an ongoing theme.
Overall, I really liked it!! My advice... take the plunge!! With both feet! You just might need a tattoo when it's over!!!
